Missy Trap

The Aberdeen Area Humane Society has a Missy Trap available for lease. The Missy Trap is a humane capture trap used to help contain lost dogs.

In March/April 2021, the AAHS was contacted about a stray dog that was running through the streets of southwest Aberdeen. Usually not a big deal, but this girl was scared and smart. She evaded Good Samaritans, was too smart for a regular live trap and she was fast. Her speed and unwillingness to trust people gained her the name Sia (pronounced See-ya!). With the help of a non-profit called the Retrievers, based out of MN, the shelter secured the supplies for a Missy Trap. The Missy Trap was deployed and while Sia was caught by other means, we are happy to now be able to lend out the trap to those in need.

If you have a lost dog and have not been successful at getting him/her back home, please contact the shelter at 605-226-1200. We have a volunteer who is well versed in the process and is able to talk families through it.
